CMA begins investigation on Omnicom-IPG merger
The deal, announced at the end of last year, would see Omnicom acquire IPG in an all-stock transaction, creating the biggest advertising group.
The CMA will assess whether the merger of the two companies could lead to a reduction in competition in the UK market.
The regulator announced the launch of its merger inquiry by notice to the parties on 16th June, and has set a deadline of 13th August for its phase one decision.
Omnicom is the owner of Omnicom Media Group (OMG), Flywheel and the DAS Group of Companies. Businesses include advertising group DDB, data and analytics division Annalect, branding agency Interbrand and media agency Hearts and Science.
Interpublic’s businesses include media network UM, advertising agencies FCB and McCann, media and marketing services arm IPG Mediabrands and e-commerce insight platform Intelligence Node.
Omnicom and IPG did not respond immediately to requests for comment.
